I want to share with you a touching story I received this morning from Elisheva Lock, director of Connect2: Friendly Visiting for Holocaust Survivors, a program of the Jewish Community Council of Greater Coney Island that the Claims Conference funds. Connect2, through its network of volunteers, had a profound impact over the weekend on one [...]  Growing up in Guyana, Alexis Whitehead never heard of the Holocaust until she came to the United States. After her grandmother passed away last year, she wanted to get involved in volunteer work and found Connect2, which pairs volunteer visitors with elderly Holocaust survivors in New York. Alexis now regularly visits 81-year-old Rosa Scheck, and [...] Going beyond her duty of visiting Mascha for an hour for a friendly visit, Caroline decided to stay a little longer in order to make sure she can help the 96 year old survivor light the Chanukah Menorah.
